In the last update, I mentioned working on a novella. My editor had some terrific feedback, and I’ve decided to put it on hold for now. The story needs more (which I knew when I sent it to her) and it didn’t fit well as a prequel. I’m likely going to expand it into a full book, but later in the series.

But, I still want to send something to you, newsletter readers, and am working on sketches of my two main characters. They don’t meet until the first book, so I’m focusing on their lives before they connect. Stay tuned!

Currently reading

I finished Hysteria by LJ Ross last week. I liked it. I haven’t decided what to read next, so send any suggestions my way.

With my son, we’ve been reading a few library books and a few French books as he’s showing more interest in learning the language (which is excellent as he has many French relatives).

Listen to this

I recently re-listened to BBC Sounds’ The Mysterious Case of Charles Dexter Ward, a retelling of a Lovecraft story. I have to admit I’m not up on my Lovecraft, but that didn’t hamper my enjoyment of this. My favourite episode featured Nicola Walker (Unforgotten) as a professor tracing a legend through time. BBC just released a second series, which I expect is equally good.

One thing I learned

Things don’t always go to plan. I thought I’d be releasing a novella before April, but the story is better told another way. Rather than force it so I can cross it from my to-do list, I’m giving it some space.
